…Meanwhile, in an unknown location, Arcanus laded unconscious in his lupine form next to a fallen oak tree, the smell of blood and dying vegetation still lingered in the air around him. Unbeknownst to the young Beta an entire week had passed since he made the choice to come here and investigate the threatening odor that, in his mind, was too close to his pack to simply ignore. In that time Myst slowly regained all of her lost strength and has taken on her normal duties as alpha and mother once more, grateful to her loyal Beta and Angelic healer for their help. Tristan had also come back to Brii a few days ago in order to visit Light and her pups. In that time he had also agreed to help his cousin’s growing pack in any way he could. Indeed, it seemed that things were starting to look a bit brighter for the Aurora’s Blood pack, but looks can be deceiving fore this was simply the calm before the storm...A battle was coming would the pack be ready?
One week earlier…
…Finding himself with a tough decision to make the Ashen and moss pelted brute stopped dead in his traces mid sprint causing a small cloud of dry earth to circle around him. To bring the wicker basket, made with his very own deity powers, containing the life saving fruit, flowers and berries that Myst so desperately needed, or to follow the scent of blood and dying vegetation that seemed way too close to his pack’s territory to be ignored? To run home and make sure his alpha and friend was to recovery and help bring an end to this war, or to chase off this entity whose unknown intent may cause the entire pack their lives? Not an easy decision for the young Beta for sure, but a choice that needed to be made quickly. A moment later, as the dust had begun to settle around him, Arcanus remembered something very important that Votex had told him. “Arcanus listen to me boy, there will be times when you will find yourself in a positionin which a hard choice must be made. In this case you must remember one thing…you are one person, and can only do so much…It is at this time that you must remember your duties, your loyalties, and follow your heart to tell you what’s right. For the good of the pack Arc. For the good of the pack!” Thinking about his words closely the deity suddenly remembered an ability he had recently discovered. A skill he seemed to have gained ever since he became the Beta of his pack. The perk called Haunting soul! The power of self-duplication!
With that in mind the Brute concentrated on the task at hand, trying to create a complete copy of himself. It did not come easy at first, with the first few tries creating disfigured or mindless copies of himself that would soon disappear in a large cloud of black smoke the moment there was a change in the wind current around ‘them.’ “Damn it…why did I not practice this power sooner…” He said with a grumble. All the brute could think of was how much time he was wasting while Myst was dying and a potentially deadly intruder was creeping up on them. A few moments later with a final try, a realistic, seemingly normal looking copy of himself appeared next to him. I was like looking into a mirror, it even mimicked all of Arcanus’s subtle movements. “Yes! I did it!” The brute said with a smile. “Now uh…Arc…I need a favor from you! Take this basket of healing plants to Myst at once! Do not stop for anything!” With his orders in mind, the copy nodded to Arc. picking up the basket and began running at full speed in his swift lupine form…
Once the copy was out of his sight, the real deity began his journey to find the source of the foul odor, which seemed to be coming from the opposite direction. Running at full speed, he was able to make it there in about a day and a half. With the smell of animal blood, fear, and dying plants only growing stronger and more potent with every step he took, nothing could have prepared him for the carnage that he was about to walk into. The first thing the brute saw was a dying elk fawn, the young fawn lied helpless on the ground in a pool of its own blood crying for its mother. The mother, as well as the rest of the herd lied, dead or dying, with their bodies mangled beyond recognition. A few were even decapitated, their bodies nowhere to be found. Beyond the elk herd, great oak trees of over a thousand years of age were carelessly chopped down and left to rot in the many pools of blood. Arcanus was beside himself, in all his years, in all of his travels, the brute never once saw such pointless, wasteful carnage. “What was the point of all this? They did not even eat anything they killed here…Why do this? Why?” The deity considered euthanizing those that were still alive in this horrible state such as the fawn, however before he could even morph into his humanoid form another sound caught his lupine ears. It was the sound of crying, a female’s cry. Without hesitation, the brute ran over to see if the girl was hurt so he may help her. Jumping over the old oak tree and dodging even more pools of blood that stained the grass, this time by a hand full of wild hares laid to waste in the same manner as the elk herd, he suddenly found her…it was Ciara…
Ciara at first took no notice of the brute as she sat on a tree stump in her humanoid form crying, her giant ice sword stabbed into the center of the cut down tree trunk next to her covered in both dried and fresh blood. Seeing that she was clearly responsible for all this, Arcanus let out a low deep growl as he approached the fae… “You?! You did all of this?! Why?! Explain yourself!” Ciara lifted her head from her hands slowly looking over to the brute with surprise. “…Why?...Why do you care…I got away from your territory just like your alpha wanted…Just leave me alone Arcanus…” The brute morphed into his humanoid form as he continued to walk closer to her. “You may not be in our territory anymore this is true but look at what you have done! All the lives that were needlessly taken here! I will ask you again, explain yourself!” He snarled as he waited for her to answer him. Aneira becoming more irritated by the moment began to take more control over Ciara. “Fine plant man you want an explanation?! I will give you a fucking explanation!” With that, the fae jumped off of her log and got into the Beta’s face. “My mate is gone! After many years of searching and planning, gone! Taken away from me once more! And now my poor Iceheart is left to float around our land looking for another compatible body!!! Do you know how long that will take?! The suffering he will go through waiting?! NO! You know nothing of matters like this!” Arcanus backed up a bit not happy with her screaming in his face, and then he caught on to something, something he never seemed to notice before… “Did you say IceHeart was your mate?! And what girl are you talking about I thought Titan was your mate…Wait are you?! Who are you really Ciara?! Tell me now or I will slay you were you stand!” The wicked ice fae looked at him couldn’t help but laugh despite her current state of grief. “You slay me? Ha! Your too soft for such cold words pup!” She laughed once more. “As for who I really am, well it’s nice to see that you are indeed a little bit smarter then you look mix breed…What it only took you a few months to figure out I was not who I said I was?! Well I guess now is a good a time as any allow me to introduce myself…” The ice fae said with blunt sarcasm. “My name is Aneira! Not that someone as young as yourself sound recognize that name but anyway I am an Ice fae warrior who originally died in a battle long ago… As for the stupid girl? Well that would be my body’s original owner here Ciara.” Arcanus looked at her in annoyance and bewilderment. I was very true that he did not recognize the name or the old time battle she spoke of. He did however understand the danger he was now potentially dealing with an ice fae one on one especially one who was so close to the Ice prince himself Iceheart . So the brute stood guarded ready for whatever were to come next.
Amused by the deity’s guarded stance she laughed at him once more. “So you are seriously going to try to fight me? Is that what you want? Pup you are out of your league!” The brute growled at the sound of her mocking, pulling out his marbled sword. “I would rather you leave these lands and never come back, however from what little I have seen of your kind you do not give up easily. I don’t really want to fight you, but I will do anything to protect my family and my land you heartless creature!” The harsh words seem to do little accept make the ice fae irritated causing her laugher to finally cease. “Boy I would advise you to put your sword away and move on…You made me laugh and that was fun for a bit took my mind off of things for a few minutes, but I can guarantee you that if you pursue this little brave beta act you will not live to see tomorrow” The wicked fae said with a loud hiss in her tone. “I will do anything to protect my family and land Ice fae! Even if it costs me my life!” He snarled back at her without any hesitation. “Well it’s your funeral I guess…” And with that Aneria shot out a snow ball from her hand at high speed hitting Arc. square in the face. While he was distracted wiping the snow off his face Aneira jump back to the log for which her oversize ice sword was impaled into. The petite fae who seemed at a glance like she would be too small to the large weapon pulled it out in one swift motion showing no sign of effort being needed. Once she had her trusty sword in hand the brute was already on her mid swing as she raise the seemingly ‘light weight’ weapon to clash with his. “Nice effort I will give you that pup but I have hundreds of years more experience then you do. I have seen it all” Not to give into her boasting Arcanus simply replied, “This may be true Aneira but tell me for all of your experience did you not say just a minute ago that you were killed in battle?” The brute remarked as he continued to lock his sword with hers, his weapon much smaller compared to her but holding strong. Aneira growled at his comment as she shoved him away from her breaking the dead lock between them and sending the brute sliding a couple of feet back from her still standing strong and ready for her attack. “How dare you mock me you little shit! I will have you know I died with honor! And not easily mind you!” She began to whimper as she thought back to that day. “It was all her fault! She ruined everything! That damn fucking angel Meredith!” She continued to ramble about the subject for some time leaving the brute feeling a bit awkward. He wasn’t sure if he should attack her anymore since she seemingly stopped fighting him for the moment.
Nearly five minutes later when Aneira finally stopped going on about how much she hated the angel she looked over to Arcanus who was still in a fighting stance with a serious face. “So as you see boy that was a onetime freak event! And if was still around I would have killed her in a heartbeat!” As she said that she was once again locked in a dead lock with the brute, their swords making a horrible screeching sound from all the friction. Finally Aneira broke the stance as she swiftly jump over Arcanus and tried to slice him in half. Thankfully Arc. caught the weapon with his own mid swing and jumped back a few feet to regroup. “You are a weak beta pup! Any other beta would have killed me by now!” She said as she came at him once more. The pair found themselves in a pattern of attack and dodging that neither of them could seem to break and at first glance to any on looker it would seem that the pair was evenly matched. However, as time passed and nightfall creeping up upon the bloody battlefield it was becoming apparent that the brute was slowing down and becoming sloppy. For every small blow Arc. got to hit on Aneira, she was now making three more of her own leaving him weary. “I am surprised you have held up this long pup…You even managed to scratch me a few times with that dull blade of yours…Are you ready for your nap now?! Would you like to say a final good night to your mother?! Or how about that stupid mate of yours…what was her name again? Carith? Ha! I should kill her too…” The wicked fae smirked as she looked into the tired brute’s dulling green orbs with her icy blue ones. “You…You can’t…I will…not let you!” And with that the brute made contact with her ribs and managed to leave a painful wound which caused her to fall over in pain. Bloody and battered Arc walked over to her to finish her off for good this time. Suddenly the fae looked up with sad defeated eyes and begged for her life. Arc. stopped for a moment because he heard a change in her voice, it was softer and sounded more vulnerable than the trash talking, heartless warrior he was just fighting. It was Ciara, the real Ciara. Aneira, being the evil manipulative creature she is hid within Ciara’s consciousness so that Ciara could feel all the pain of that last blow and pull on the ‘soft’ male’s heart strings. The deity remembered this Ciara, this was the sweet young fae that wanted nothing more to see Titan when she was ill, the one who was thankful to the alpha for curing her, and the one who wanted to be his friend before she, at the time, seem to go crazy for no reason other than grief and attacked Myst leading to where she is now. This was the Ciara he sympathized for and thought he could trust one day…
Not knowing what had happened to Aneira he put his sword away as Ciara placed hers on the ground. “I..I am sorry Arc…I don’t know what came over me…I just miss him so much…” The beta offered to help her to which she accepted. “I…I think there is someone…else someone else inside me…” Arcanus looked her over. “Well yes…you would be right about that…miss Ciara…” The fae began to cry. “I knew it I knew there was something wrong with me….I…!” The brute carefully offered her a hug trying to avoid her wound. As he did this the brute suddenly felt a deep pain in his chest. He looked down and saw the fae’s small fist deep into his sternum. As the brute gasped for air, his body morphing back into it’s lupine form, he could hear an evil chuckle with a sly remark he could not understand as his world slowly turned black as he lost consciousness. “What a weak beta…I had no plans of ever returning to that wimpy pack of dogs but for your actions hear boy, I will gladly pay another visit. Who knows maybe I will actually kill someone this time! Ha! You can live though so this way you can better understand my pain, and maybe next time mind your own fucking business!” She kneeled down and kiss him on the cheek before leaving. “I’ll give it to you though for your lack of fighting skills and fails sense of pride, you are at least cute…” And with that she ran off in an unknown direction.
One week later…
As Arcanus laded unconscious in his lupine form next to a fallen oak tree, the smell of blood and dying vegetation still lingered in the air around him. Unbeknownst to the young Beta an entire week had already passed. It was not until he felt a nudging at his side that he finally woke up, stiff, but with a lot of his wounds already beginning to heal. He looked up to see who was there, “Light, Light is that you?” The entity did not answer however and continued to nudge him until he stood up. To his surprise it was not Light, or Myst or any of the pack for that matter, it was not even a wolf… It was a horse! “Wha..t are you doing here friend?” The horse neighed softly and walked over to an open field, to which Arc. followed. There lied a small herd of horses that looked similar to him, white with black markings, and big hooves, they had all been slaughtered just like the elk and the hare. Arcanus morphed into his human form and offered the horse a sympathetic pat on his side. “I am sorry my friend I tried to stop her but she got away from me…” Even though the stallion could not speak, he seemed to understand every word Arc. was saying to him. The stallion offered a friendly nudge with his pink nose and at that moment the pair started to bond. “Would you like to come with me back to my pack? Maybe you can help us?” The stallion seemed to nod in agreement and lower his head to allow Arc. to jump on him. Since the deity had never ridden a horse before he climbed on awkwardly, nearly falling off. And as the stallion started to run he gabbed on to his mane for dear life.
Only a half a day away now the deity began to relax a bit and ride more comfortably. “By the way friend my name is Arcanus! I believe you can understand me right?” The stallion neighed in agreement. “I should give you a name too but what should it be?” It took a bit of thinking before he came up with something. “I think I will call you Ferdinand! Do you like that name buddy?” With a loud neigh and a quickened pace it was easy for him to tell that the stallion like his name. “Ok Ferdinand it is then!” After about another ten minutes or so the pair found themselves in front of the water gate entrance. “Ferd! Welcome to the Aurora’s Blood pack” The brute quickly jumped off and ran inside to see if everyone was ok.
There was no sign of the ice fae anywhere, no blood, no cut down trees, it was exactly how he left it. Then he remembered about Myst, did his copy get here in time? Did they see him disappear? He looked for her first. “Myst!” He called out as he found her talking to a random solider. “ARCANUS?! OMG WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN WE WERE SO WORRIED!” She yelled as she ran to hug him. “I am sorry I worried you Myst I am glad to see you are feeling better.” And with that the solider walked away while the pair talked about what had happened. As concerned about the ice fae as she was she told Arc. there were bigger things to worry about right now. She explained that a battle was about to start soon and that her daughter was still missing and that a search party was about to be assembled very soon as well. So with that Arc. went to Light who was shocked to see him and led him to explain again what happened before having his wounds healed so he can jump into battle once more. And with that Arcanus grew some extra grass for Ferdinand to eat and mentally prepared himself for battle once more.
